The Raven is a narrative poem written by Edgar Allan Poe, an American Poet and early practitioner of short story who contributed with various forms of literary works such as poems, short stories, detective fiction and science fiction. 

His notable works include The Cask of Amontillado, The Imp of the Perverse, The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, The Philosophy of Composition, Annabel Lee, The City in the Sea, and A Dream Within a Dream.

The Raven narrates the story of a cursed man who lost his love Lenore. On a December night he sits in despair and thinking of forgetting his love memories. While he was sitting in a Chair, suddenly a Raven enters his room and comically behaves as if no one is there in the room. He asks the name of the Raven, it replies with a single word “Nevermore”. He is surprised to know it is talking, and start chatting with it with an array of questions; whether he will be able to erase the memories of his love, Raven replies “Nevermore”; Whether I can reunite with my love Lenore in heaven, Raven replies “Nevermore”.
